Dry Whites for Lunch or Dinner

This week, our best bets for reasonably priced characterful dry wines for hat weather drinking. They include some of our favorites from past monthly cases.

The Bad News: the 2020 Haarmeyer Chenin Blanc sold out. We could not fill several orders.

The Good News. The 2021 has just arrived. It is fresh as the daisies that infuse some better Vouvrays. The 2021 Haarmeyer Chenin Blanc St. Roy SRV  has impeccable balance and just the right amount of peachy fruit to finish still dry. It is a luscious summer tipple.

The 2019 Ziereisen Heugumber Gutedel is moderately bodied, full flavored with a hint of nuttiness. Dry and herbaceous, it will go with chicken and a variety of seafood. We have just three cases left

Deciphered, the AJ Adam Dhron Im Pfarrgarten Riesling Feinherb tells you that it's Riesling, from the Pfarrgarten vineyard in the German Mosel town of Dhron. O and that it is just the tiniest bit off-dry, drier than many California Chardonnays, and just enough to offset its strong mineral and good acid without a sense of sweetness. For seafood and white meats.

The three white burgundies:  all elegant racy, and defined, some in limited quantities:

From the great 2020 vintage, the  Jean Manciat Macon Charnay Franclieu is the best dry we have come across at the most reasonable price. It has been a favorite here.

Outside, Chablis Guilhem et Jean-Hugues Goisot are the most noted for their powerful mineral-infused whites from the vineyards around AuxerreTheir 'basic' Bourgogne, also from the wonderful 2020 vintage, wants oysters. Cotuits are just the match.

Finally, Domaine Faiveley makes a fine Merucrey white in the Cote Chalonnais. It is richer than the other wines, with a light oak overlay. White meat or salmon here.
