Valfaccenda in Roero
Top Arneis and Nebbiolo
July 22, 2024

Often compared to Barolo, the wines of Roero, , have indeed become worthy of their own distinction. The Valfaccenda wines are nuanced yet complex, delicate yet precise in structure, and the kind of well-crafted wine you want to enjoy again and again.
In 2010, Luca Faccenda and his wife, Carolina Roggero, reclaimed their family's old Arneis and Nebbiolo vines in the Faccenda valley of the Roero commune, Canale. Valfaccenda is a nod to Luca's family's long history in the area. A 20+ year gap in winemaking between Luca and his father freed Luca to pursue his expressions without family pressure to do otherwise.
Luca made his passion and focus on charting his family's course so that he could shine the spotlight on Roero abundantly clear to me. He is determined that everything they do is part of a vision for what the wines of the Roero can and should be. There's no imitation of the famous surrounding regions- just innovation showing exactly what is possible in the Roero. In his own words
"We strongly believe that a wine may exist only as a natural consequence of a territory and as a result of a pondered approach both in vineyard and in cellar"
2021 Valfaccenda Roero Bianco Vigna Loreto
Luca's top white wine is widely recognized in Italy as the pinnacle expression of terroir-driven Roero Arneis. The Arneis vines greatly benefit from intensely sandy, well-draining soils on hillside vineyards with elevation.
Aroma: Delicate notes of White Orchard fruit, Citrus Blossom and Honeysuckle. Mouth: Fleshy fruit notes of white pear, nectarine, lemon curd, and spicy herbal tones are balanced by a vibrant acidity, a dash of salinity, and framed with the backbone of minerality. Excellent $53.00, Case $45.05
2020 Valfaccenda Roero Rosso Riserva
Valmaggiore is Roero's top single vineyard cru, whose Nebbiolo is also made by prestigious producers Giacosa, Sandrone, and Brovia. Luca Faccenda's version is both noble and ethereal. Aroma: Morello cherries, Kirsch liqueur, Rose petals, spiced potpourri, and truffles. Mouth: A mineral-driven wine with a lighter mouthfeel yet a richness of a substantial Nebbiolo. Dark cherry, Blackberry fruit, Black tea, and peppery arugula with fine tannins, great acidity, and a persistent finish. Would be amazing with Veal Osso Buco with a Milanese Saffron Risotto. Excellent Plus $62.00, Case $52.70
Mix any six at 10% off their bottle price or twelve at their case prices
