The July Federal Case Summer Values
When asked for their favorites, more people than usual said that all the wines were good, and good value.
July 6, 2022

Visitors from Ohio and Tennessee joined our regulars
When asked for their favorites, more people than usual said that all the wines were good and good value.
That said, most often mentioned were the clean, pure higher-toned Sauvignon Blanc flavors of the Loire Valley's Dyckerhoff Reuilly. The 2021 was its third vintage in a row to get strong endorsements from our customers.
Tasters also often cited the Pelle Pinot Noir Rose. It showed rather juicy with some lovely sweet fruit and good acid. We have bottles left
The City Limits Rousaanne showed true to form, creamy broad on the palate with a nice balance of bracing acidity. People remarked on its somewhat exotic passionfruit nose.
One person tasted no oak in the Raeburn Chardonnay. It is there aplenty, but not the sweet vanilla version you get in most tutti frutti chards. The Raeburn showed a dry oak that complemented rather than obscured what one taster called its classic green apple Russian River notes.
Bardolino red is often thin and short-lived. The Monte del Pra was most definitely rich and thick at the tasting's start but got its most admiring comments two hours open at the tasting's end when its elements came together. This means that it will have some life ahead.
People liked and commented on the value of the 2016 Montauto Chianti. And felt that it successfully melded the nutty character that distinguishes Sangiovese with some good modern fruit and nice underlying structure. It's a steal at 12.99
