Summery Rosés
Seven dry wines, seven styles; each appealed to some of the tasters.
June 26, 2024
Seven dry wines, seven styles; each appealed to some of the tasters. The two Loire valley showed two sides of Cabernet Franc; the Chanteluserie was softer more balanced where the Guiberteau was bolder, fruitier, and more mouth-filling. `
The Rquer=fort Corail was round and full of fruit. We sold out but got more in today. The Spinetta was likewise round, but creamier - A few tasters felt a bit of sweetness on the finish.
The two most ordered from the tasting were contrasts. The Terre Nere Etna Rose was leaner and drier, with a strong smoky mineral note from its volcanic soils, that some found irresistible. Others were beguiled by the Mourchon Rose's full fruit and body.
The 2023 Arnot Roberts Rose was a late addition. From California's Central Coast it is almost unique in that it's mostly from the noble Touriga Nacional grape, which is to Portiugal's Douro, what Syrah is to the Rhone or Nebbiolo to Piedmont. well-received.
Vinous liked it also "Effusive, broad aromatics and lovely mid-palate depth make for an intriguing yet quirky Rosé that offers too much versatility. Wildflowers, blood orange, mint, rose petals and kirsch are some of the many nuances that build in this striking, wonderfully inviting Rosé." $35, case 29.99
