Vigne Surrau in Sardinia
High Quality and Value
February 16, 2023

The island of Sardinia lies in the Mediterranean to the west of Italy. It is incredibly beautiful, with rugged mountains and some of the most pristine beaches in the world. They have also been producing fine wines here for centuries. The main white grape is Vermentino, and the main red grape is Cannanau. Gallura in the far northeast is unique of the three main wine-growing areas. Originally part of Piedmont, plate tectonics drove it into Sardinia a few million years ago. The soil here is weathered rocky granite, and a strong mistral wind off the sea modifies the climate.
The Demuro family has been making wine here for generations. Tino Demuro took it further by building a new open-concept winery called Vigne Surrau. Today we are offering two of his wines. The 2021 Vigne Surrau Vermentino di Gallura Limizzani is a balanced white with excellent mineral freshness. The 2020 Vigne Surrau Cannonau di Sardegna Naracu has rich red fruit and herbal notes in an elegant style with no heaviness. And speaking of Piedmont, our old friend Barolo producer Beppe Caviola is a consultant for Vigne Surrau.

2021 Vigne Surrau Vermentino di Gallura Limizzani: Bright straw, green highlights. Green apple, lime, grapefruit with a light oily touch and fresh minerality, almond and flowers in the finish. Very Very Good Plus 16.99/bottle
