Egly-Ouriet Estate New Releases

According to Francois Egly, "Vines are like horses: if you want to master them, you have to breed them." He's a great rider-breeder with a 40-year-old vineyard which is now counted among the best estates in Champagne.

We have just been given a very short-term opportunity to get bottles only of his champagnes below. They are extremely limited and will arrive from France in about a month. We have sent this offer to our champagne list. Several bottle sold out, but we do have some good ones left.

For three generations, the family has built a heritage of grand cru vines in Bouzy, Verzenay, and especially Ambonnay, in the heart of the terroir. In the first vintage, it has a pinot meunier on the terroir of Vrigny, in the Marne valley. Égly, following his father Michel, patiently builds a treasure that allows him to market his crus with at least four years of aging and his vintages more than six years. They have made their reputation with rich barrel-aged Champagnes followed by long aging on lees.

His back labels list the champagnes' composition, including their base years. Mostly 2017, Les Prémices (Massif de Saint-Thierry) is for current drinking. It is already very golden with marked aromatic evolution and a soft mouth.

More powerful, a new cuvée Les Vignes de Bisseuil (2016 base) is finely wrought and tames its rich breadth of the vintage through to a savory length.

From Montagne de Reims, Brut Grand Cru (base 2016) pushes an admirably chiseled frame further: it is endowed with solid flavors and an extremely delicate mousse.

Rosé (2016 base) asserts itself with a structured and deep burst of flavor, revealing a palate with no excess richness.

VP (base 2013) displays an admirable grilled patina and the vintage's somewhat firm, austere tone. A great classic Champagne.

Fine and smoky thanks to incomparable barrel aging, the Blanc de Noirs VV (2014 base) comes out with fantastic power and breed and promises a lot for aging

Notes are from the Revue du Vin de France – translation mine.

No notes on the 2008, but that is a classic champagne vintage
