We were just offered a few cases each of a single vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir at discounted prices through a distributor's end-of-vintage clearance. They are informed by their vineyards' underlying basalt and are at or near maturity with some potential to age. Their elements; fruit, acids, alcohol, and sometimes wood; are carefully modulated into a complex and balanced articulation of Pinot or Chardonnay.

The 2019 Chardonnay Koosah Vineyard shows a direct and clean, almost oak-free presentation. It develops lime and flint in both the nose and mouth with some air.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Jesse James Vineyard is farmed and vinified by Beaux Freres and Martin Woods. I have tasted it several times with consistent notes. Over time, the wine has developed a nose of opulent dark berry fruit lightly accented by oak. It has firm, nicely concentrated blackberry fruit in the mouth, which is nicely counterbalanced by fine tannins. Very good length here

If you like old-world purity of line with a new-world richness of fruit, you will enjoy these wines very much, even more so at our lower prices

2018 Martin Woods Pinot Noir Jesse James; Color: very dark, heady rich, very dense; Mouth: clean, very fresh, juicy, richly textured and tight firm, later very expansive blackberry notes, long; Excellent Was $58 Now $45; Case, $39
