David Ramey

We have known David since both of us had more, darker hair .More than a business acquaintance, he is a longtime friend; we have dined at each other’s houses, he has done tastings at the store and likes to tell how I was the impetus for his planting and producing syrah.

We have followed his wines over two decades. Especially  fine are the acme of David’s whites, his single vineyard chardonnays that led the Wine Spectator to call him Professor Chardonnay. David takes Burgundy as his model and feels that the wines from his selected vineyards are as distinct as Cote de Beaune 1er crus and challenge them in quality.

2016, their current release, is a banner year for the Ramey single vineyards. Critics have rated them very highly , Anthony Galloni in Vinouscalled them all “Outstanding”, most near exceptional. Due to restaurants’ difficulties we are able to offer more of them at reduced prices.

2016 Rochioli Vineyard Chardonnay (Russian River)

David and his family have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the Rochioli family for years and are quite excited to produce this elegant and fruit-driven chardonnay from the neighbor’s vineyard on Westside Road. This is the second vintage from its master craftsman and meticulously farmed fruit.

Elegance, a sensuality, a remarkable sense of place. The texture is silklike, and incredible balance

“powerful and dense in its first impression. It is also one of the more phenolic, structured Chardonnays in the range. There is a real sense of weight and textural resonance that runs through the fruit. Hints of lemon confit, dried flowers and dried pear meld into the creamy, layered finish.” -- Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2016 Ritchie Vineyard (Russian River)

Ritchie vineyard, brings back some planting nostalgia, as the vineyard is widely spaced, as was the fashion in the 1970s, planted in 1972 these old vines with their gnarly trunks produce  small clusters with distinct “hen and chick” characteristics. The chardonnay clone is the Old Wente selection, balance, harmony, minerality.it truly walks that fine line between richness and delicacy. It possesses a complex and harmonious mouthfeel

“a standout in this range. Perfumed aromatics make a strong opening statement; white flowers, mint and white peach are all beautifully lifted. Refined and elegant to its core, the 2016 Ritchie is a fabulous wine. Don't miss it. -- Galloni

2016 Woolsey Road Vineyard (Russian River)

The Martinelli family planted this  vineyard to David’s specifications in 2007. It offers an incredible balance between richness and delicacy. It shows great depth of flavor , length of finish, aromatic complexity, and a fine balance between richness and delicacy

“one of the more overt wines in the range. Dense and exotic in the glass, it is rich, oily and immediately captivating. It will appeal most to readers who enjoy extroverted Chardonnays. Even with all of its richness, the Woolsey Road remains bright and nicely focused." -- Galloni

2016 Hyde  Vineyard  (Carneros)

whole grape clusters for phenolic delicacy. Native yeast and full native malolactic fermentation take place in barrel, with sur lies bâtonnage . This wine often shows more depth and richness.

“a standout in this range. Perfumed aromatics make a strong opening statement; white flowers, mint and white peach are all beautifully lifted. Refined and elegant to its core  a fabulous wine. Don't miss it.” – Galloni

Hyde was the only white of the Wine Spectator‘s  2019 Top 10 Wines of the Year so we only have enough left to offer it as part of our Ramey Chardonnay Sampler
