This Week Wednesday, July 8, 2026 Mediterranean Summer Wines In-store, 5 - 6:30pm   |

The warm, temperate Mediterranean gives us wines that are perfect for this season. Many countries and sub-regions produce uniquely styled wines for different uses. This week, six delicious, impressive examples that particularly impressed me, and will also impress you.
White
2024 Agnanum Sabbia Vulcanica Falanghina
The volcanic soils of the Campi Flegrei lie along the coast just to the west of Naples. Along with the warm sun, the cooling sea breeze makes the Falanghina grape fine fruit for a fantastic wine. The wine is vibrant, clean and crisp with streaks of minerality making it truly refreshing.
Aroma: Sorrento lemons, tropical fruit, honeydew melon, briny, mediterranean herbs and a touch of flint. Mouth: Fresh, juicy, medium bodied, citrus, pineapple, saline minerality, bright acidity, clean, crisp finish. Very Good Plus
$21.99, Case $18.99
2024 Domaine Zafeirakis Tyrnavos Assyrtiko
The Assyrtiko grape made the wine of the Greek isle of Santorini world-famous. This certified organic version from the Peloponnese is like it, but rounder and more textural. The two places share the lively acidity, minerality and crisp refreshment that the Assyrtiko is known for.
Aroma: Lemon & lime zest, granny smith apple, lemongrass, white pepper, crushed seashells, sea salt. Mouth: Medium Bodied, round & supple, zesty citrus, hint of stone fruit, green apple, lemongrass, ginger, good salinity, balanced acidity, crushed stone minerality, and a refreshing finish. Very Good Plus
$26.99, Case $22.99
2024 Punta Crena Ligure di Ponente Pigato Vigneto Ca Da Rena
Pigato is a grape native to Liguria, the Italian Riviera. Although closely related to Vermentino, it has a richer aromatic complexity. Punta Crena "Ca' da Rena" Pigato is an authentic, impeccable example of the Riviera Ligure di Ponente, capturing the freshness and aromatic complexity that Pigato can achieve in this unique terroir.
Aroma: A burst of citrus peel, along with notes of green apple, white peach, and Mediterranean herbs like basil, thyme and sage lift out of the glass. Delicate floral nuances and a hint of sea breeze reflect the maritime influence on the vineyard. Mouth: Medium-bodied with lively acidity, envelopes ripe citrus, stone fruit, and crushed seashell minerality. The wine has a long, refreshing finish with a touch of ocean brininess which immerses you in its local coastal character. Excellent
$37, Case $31
Red
2021 Kir-Yanni Naoussa Xinomavro Cuvee Villages
A great introduction to Xinomavro, Greece’s most prominent red wine grape. Although often compared to Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo, it is wonderful in its own right. It has classic old-world style and charm with a medium body, bright acidity, and fine, well-rounded tannins.
Aroma: Strawberry, cherry, mint leaf, basil, olive tapenade, and a hint of tobacco. Mouth: Cherry, plum, black licorice, balsamic herbs, smooth texture and tannins, balanced acidity and a well-rounded finish with a touch of spice. Very Good
$22.99, Case 19.99
2024 Masseria Li Veli Orion Primitivo
Primitivo is called Zinfandel in California but properly grown in its native Puglia, the back of the heal of the Italian boot, is is lighter and reflects its origins. Its warm dark fruit tones, spice, earth, leather, and violets evoke the sun-drenched origins. The medium-full bodied palate is mouth-coating and velvety in texture, offering more of a baked fruit character.
Aroma: Black cherries, blackberry, black currants, star anise, dark chocolate, and toasted baking spices. Mouth: Dark cherry compote, blackberry, black licorice, orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, smooth tannins, and a fresh streak of acidity running through the mid-palate that lifts the wine, keeping it lively and juicy. A great wine for food coming from your grill or smoker. Very Good
$19.99, Case $16.99
2024 Mas Doix Les Crestes Priorat
Spain’s sun-baked Priorat is full of schist rock that you can taste in the wine. The benchmark Mas Doix estate layers its Garnacha with Cariñena for crispness and and Syrah for power to deliver a fresher and more expressive version. Matured in a combination of oak foudres, concrete eggs and used barriques, the wine offers a complex textural and flavor experience.
Aroma: Ripe cherry, blackberry, blueberry, Mediterranean herbs, mint leaf, cedar, cloves, and allspice Mouth: Mixed red berry fruit, plum, pomegranate, sage, warm Mediterranean spices, full bodied, balanced acidity, polished tannins, lush texture, and a fresh lifted finish. Very Good -Excellent
