2024 Byron Kosuge Pinot Noir Rose Ava
Pinot is Pretty in Pink
Byron Kosuge is one of our favorite California wine makers. This rose from Hudson Ranch in Napa’s Carneros has been a federalista favorite for the past few years. This edition is as good as it's ever been. It is lacy and ethereal, almost delicate to start, but expands with a bit of air into a satisfyingly strawberry-inflected fruit. Delicate and refreshing on its own, it pairs nicely with fish or fowl.
Color: Pale salmon Aroma: light, very fresh and fruity, rather deep, firm acidity; Mouth: fleshy, bright, rounded, pretty pinot with a light fine acid filigree; Very Good Plus $23.99; Case, $19.99
2024 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rose Organic
Cabernet Franc, Bold and Intense
Romain Guiberteau owns some of the best land on the hill of Brézé in the Loire Valley’s Saumur. He began making wine under the mentorship of Clos Rougeard’s Nady Foucault in 1996, and since then, his wines have become some of the most sought-after in the region.
His rose is all cabernet franc in a richer, more intense style
Saumur’s Cabernet Franc roses are richer and heavier. This edition stands out for its power, drive, and intensity. It's rich now, and with air, it opens into a full, dense, and weighty wine, extraordinary for its price. Last year, the wine sold out very quickly on his reputation and its price
Color: very, very pale; Aroma: very heady and lushly floral, accented by a crisp green note; Mouth: vibrant, bright, heavy, and floral, with a bright acid line, firm, refined acid full, bright, long; Very Good - Excellent $24.99; Case, $21.49 Five cases only
