Our Most Popular Provencal Rosé + a Fresh, Fragrant Rosé Discovery
2021 Ch. Roquefort Cotes de Provence Rose + 2021 Ch la Blaque Pierrevert Rose
May 11, 2022

Raimond de Villeneuve’s biodynamic Corail Rose has been our most popular Provencal rose for years. Then 2021 is sure to extend that run.
Noted French wine critic Michel Bettane wrote
"[Villeneuve's] wines perfectly combine ample and intense fruit with a rich and silky body. The wines of Roquefort have a hedonic character that will make you immediately rejoice."
The 2021 Ch. Roquefort Cotes de Provence Corail (French for its coral color) is organic and biodynamic. The Grenache grape gives it breadth, Syrah intensity, Cinsault and Carignan structure and spice. White grape Clairette adds piquancy and lift.
Northern exposure and the estate's high altitude make for cooler nights and an extended growing season, making the wines a freshness embedded in rich, full, and rounded fruit. Combined with the delicately astringent structure of Provencal roses makes it a good partner for a variety of warmer weather dishes. You can drink this with grilled fish and almost any chicken or a lightly dressed salad.
We are getting less of this wine than we have in the past and can not predict how long we will be able to keep it in stock

…. and a Provence Rose Discovery

Domaine La Blaque is in Pierrevert, a tiny Provencal appellation of only six producers. It is remarkable for its 1500 feet altitude in the foothills of the Provencal Alps. Higher altitude means cooler temperatures mean leaner, crisper livelier Roses. Dom. La Blaque accentuates that quality by adding Vermentino to a base of Cinsault and subjecting them to a long cool maceration and fermentation.
The 2021 Domaine La Blaque spoke to us. It is lively and exciting, with more finesse than most we have tasted. Piquant and a palate enlivening acidity. It made us fall in love. We think it is an excellent counterpart to the Corail.
