Vietti Barolo End of Vintage Sale Offer
Eugenio Palumbo, Vietti's winemaker, dropped by the store last week with some of his 2020 crus. All were remarkable, but two magical Barolo Single Vineyards really struck me. Rocche di Castiglione is an absolute classic. Cerequio, a recent addition, is quickly making a name for itself, and both will end with a memorable wine experience! The wines can be enjoyed now with decanting or set aside to allow the secondary flavors to emerge for complexity and sophistication in the years to come.
Barolo Rocche di Castiglione 2020
Rocche di Castiglione is prized for its pure white, chalky soils, which produce wines of exceptional finesse and a wide range of flavors. For lovers of timeless Nebbiolo, it is a real hit. The vines are located not far from the winery, which blends into the stone walls and urban fabric of the village of Castiglione Falletto. Rocche di Castiglione is a curiously shaped and elongated Cru with a unique southeast exposure along a steep ravine that yields fruit that produces a straightforward Barolo with precision, structure, and balanced freshness. This naturally concentrated vintage also displays a juicy quality that is simply outstanding. Pretty mineral notes contribute to the balance and elegance.
"a magical wine from a magical vineyard. It combines finesse and volume to an extent not found in most other wines in this range. Castiglione Falletto is the center of the Barolo growing area, where many different types of soil come together. As a result, the wines often display an astonishing balance, which is very much the case here." Antonio Galloni - Vinous Sale Price: $225 net
Barolo Cerequio 2020
Cerequio is a naturally-shaped amphitheater of vines divided into southwest and southeast-facing parts. In 2018, Vietti acquired vines in the southwestern exposure, considered the better of the two and the crème de la crème of the Barolo Crus. It's no coincidence that the labels that have made Barolo history are all from here.
"The 2020 Barolo Cerequio once again confirms that buying this vineyard is one of the smartest decisions Vietti ever made. A wine of nuance and class, Cerequio captures all the pedigree of this great site. Crushed red berry fruit, kirsch, blood orange, spice, and mint soar out of the glass, all framed by nervy tannins that convey classicism. This is an exotic, racy Barolo."
