Reduced Prices on American Chardonnays
New vintages are arriving, so we must make room by letting go some of the old. We found all these American chardonnays to have an individual character true to their origin sand the capability to improve with age. These are only available in quantities of two to three cases, so all are offered subject to presale, and they may not be available for tasting.

2023 Ian Brand Chardonnay Paysan San Benito
Ian Brand’s wines always have a clarity of expression at a very reasonable price. Very little or no oak here. It expresses the purity of cool climate Central Coast California fruit.
Color: Very pale clean; Aroma: Citrus, intense papaya; Mouth: Clean light bright acid, clean tight, intense, high toned; Very Good Plus $23.99; Case, $19.99
2023 Brewer Clifton Chardonnay Sta Rita Collection
Greg Brewer makes lively and intensely flavored wines. This one, formerly poured at one of Boston's tonier steakhouses, expresses that perfectly. It is already reduced in price and is a very, very good value.
Aroma: some soft oak, heady light and lithe pretty acid; Mouth: lightly saline, Clean herbal notes, nuts so what sweet note, good acid long; Very Good Plus $24.99; Case, $21.25
2020 Winderlea Chardonnay, Willamette Valley, Oregon
This wine is in a lovely place right now. Ex-Bostonians Bill Sweat and Donna Morris retired from Fidelity to craft finely focused, pure, and expressive Chardonnays. This is no exception. Again, a reduced price. Don't let its age deter you. It is just coming into its drinking window.
Color: golden; Aroma: heady, lightly sweet, heady and l, some auto; Mouth: rich, bright, full, fat, bright acid, clean core, nicely textured. Mature chardonnay; Excellent Was $40 Now $29.99; Case, $25.49
2022 Byron Kosuge Chardonnay;
One of our favorites. Byron crafts lifted and pure expressive Chardonnay from a vineyard in the cooler part of the Sonoma Coast. This is just coming into its own, but the 2023 is on its way. It’s a perfect combination of grace and substance.
Aroma: Heady, relatively rich, and intense with herbal notes; Mouth: Clean sweet forward, intense, dry minerally, firm, lean acidity, fine length; Very Good - Excellent $43; Case, $36.55 $34.99
2023 Cruse Wine Co. Rorick Vineyard Chardonnay, Sierra Foothills
A richer style of wine from an area not famous for Chardonnay, the cooler hills near Lake Tahoe. Cruse is known mainly for its sparkling wine, but this is an excellent Chardonnay with grounded depth and solidity. Its bright fruit is nicely offset with leesy but not too obtrusive barrel notes.
Aroma: Heady and deep-, barrel note bright and firm; Mouth: Clean rounded fleshy and firm, fat fruit, bright acid, firm, long; Very Good - Excellent $37; Case, $31.45 $29.99
2019 Authentique Cellars Chardonnay Willamette Valley
Much richer and deeper than most Willamette chardonnays. This evokes the style of a richer old-style California Chardonnay, redolent of deep oak. However, it has a deep, strong acid structure that nicely offsets its extracted fruit. It wants decanting or airing ahead of time to show the best. And has years ahead of it to age gracefully.
Decanter "The cool 2019 vintage is written all over this beautiful Chardonnay, sourced from the Keeler Estate Vineyard and Bois Joli Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Made in a brilliantly reductive style with Kefir lime leaf, crushed slate, and chalky mineral notes mark the aromatics. The palate is framed by smoky minerality, and the classic Eola-Amity spice, white pepper, and cardamom stand out with savoury grilled lemon peel and gorgeous smoky flint minerality.
