These two wines will be familiar since we have been selling them here for so long. They are two of Italy's great unique white wines.

Today’s offer comes from two exceptional estates. Feudo Montoni is in the mountains of northwest Sicily; Montenidoli is in the highest hills overlooking the village of San Gimignano. At both properties, visitors can truly commune with nature. Each has a dreamlike and magnificent landscape.

Famiglia Cotarella

The 2018 Famiglia Cotarella Lazio Bianco Ferentano is made in Lazio on the border with Umbria from its Roscetto variety which is only grown here. The Ferentano is named for Forento, the ancient Etruscan village where they first made this rich, assertive white. Today, Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella have saved this grape from extinction. Of the large Cotarello empire of wines, this is my favorite.

Wines from Mount Etna have hit the wine world like the Beatles hit the music world. This includes the whites. The 2020 Tornatore Etna Bianco Pietrarizzo is grown in a high elevation single contrada. The grape is the incredible Carricante. The first carricante I tried at lunch in Sicily in 1998 was made by Don Peppino of Terre Nere fame. It was 40 years old and absolutely incredible. The Tornatore shows all of a younger version's complexity and grace yet will still age very well.

2018 Famiglia Cotarella Lazio Bianco Ferentano:  Medium gold. Pear, pineapple, herbs, and vanilla. Assertive, rich, soft, and full long intriguing lingering finish. Excellent  26.99/bottle, Case 22.99

2020 Tornatore

Wines from Mount Etna have hit the wine world like the Beatles hit the music world. This includes the whites. The 2020 Tornatore Etna Bianco Pietrarizzo is grown in a high elevation single contrada. The grape is the incredible Carricante. The first carricante I tried at lunch in Sicily in 1998 was made by Don Peppino of Terre Nere fame. It was 40 years old and absolutely incredible. The Tornatore shows all of a younger version's complexity and grace yet will still age very well.

2020 Tornatore Etna Bianco Pietrarizzo: Bright straw yellow. A lively mix of seamlessly layered aromatics finishing with pear. Vibrant flavors with citric and saline texture. Outstanding  42/bottle, case $36
