Elisabetta Foradori

Jancis Robinson - “A star beyond measure”

Eric Guido – Vinous, “The wines have gained a level of purity and energy seldom seen, all while retaining fantastic complexity.

Elisabetta Foradori ‘s sub-alpine Alto Adige wines are captivating because they become vividly alive in the glass. They are striking, elegant, enjoyably tasteful, and strikingly complex, at the same time unpretentious, playful, and above all always authentic.

This is a direct reflection of Elisabetta’s tireless work. She takes pride in working with little known indigenous grapes. Even today the red Teroldego grape and especially the white Monzoni are little known to most outside of Italian wine enthusiasts and collectors.

Elisabetta doesn’t rest on her many laurels but always looks for new ways to improve. She has replanted vineyards with only the best clones. And farmed them organically and biodynamically to get the best fruit. In the winery she went against standard methods that might have been easier and more efficient to fulfill her vision of quality and character. To get the best balance of concentration, taste, texture, and complexity she added amphorae to her oak barrel regimen. After 40 years of winemaking Elisabetta Foradori is now considered to be one of the best wine producers in Italy, adding two obscure grapes to the noble list of her native Trentino.

2024 Foradori Fontanasanta Monzoni Bianco

Monzoni is Alto Adige’s unique hybrid of Riesling and Pinot Bianco. Its highly beguiling white of effusive aromatics and layered flavors, exceptional texture, and good-structure make it far more than just a light-hearted treat. A truly versatile wine to pair with vegetables, seafood, poultry, pasta, and soups.

Aroma: Ripe white peach, candied lemon peel, hint of bitter orange, fresh baked bread and crushed salted almonds. Mouth: Fresh citrus notes, stone fruit, tropical fruit, honeysuckle, lively acidity, round texture, pristine structure leads into a very long finish with a hint of bitter almonds. Excellent $40, Case $34

2023 Foradori Teroldego Vigneti Delle Dolomiti

Teroldego Alto Adige’s noble red wine grape is called the Prince of Trentino. It’s related to Pinot Noir and Syrah. Properly grown, it conjures up the best of both of those two. Foradori’s vineyards are optimal growing conditions for the grape. The surrounding Dolomite mountains act as walls trapping the daytime summer warmth and evening cooling alpine breezes for perfect diurnal temperatures to ripen the grapes. Limestone-rich glacial alluvial soils help the vines thrive for exceptional fruit.

Aroma: Black Raspberry, pomegranate, cranberry, spiced black tea, olives, arugula, sage, and a floral potpourri. Mouth: Fresh, juicy, mixed berries, pomegranate, red currant, mediterranean spices, fresh sage, fresh cracked pepper, medium bodied, vibrant acidity, polished tannins, long savory finish. A truly energetic wine that pairs well with poultry, pork, veal, braised beef, and wild mushroom risotto.

Excellent $33, Case $27.99
