2024 Paper Road Pinot Noir
Resilient Power and Balance from New Zealand

There are many variations on relatively inexpensive Pinot Noir. Most popular is Miss Pretty, who flounces onto the palate with the promise of strawberries and lace and a toothpick of oak, but fades into disappearance as quickly as she came in. At the other extreme are those with so much non-Pinot filler that any resemblance to true Pinot is lost.
The 2024 edition Paper Road Pinot Noir steers a tasteful middle course. More concentrated than our prior editions, its sloped vineyard in Wairarapa, on the lee side of New Zealand’s North Island, gives strong acid and structure, making it perfect as a food wine. With a little air, dark fruit emerges to balance and even out the palate.
It is also a wine of promise. The previous 2021 vintage was not as concentrated as this 2024. It improved steadily the year we had it in the store, blossoming into a resiliently textured, rounded wine that became extraordinarily expressive and succulent for its price.
I expect this wine to mature in the same way. Now, with some air, it is good company for most red meat dishes and will soften enough to partner with chicken the next day. I think it will improve for at least five years, maybe more
Erin Gray, Wine Advocate, “leads with a nose of luscious red berries backed by a palate of silky red fruit. The acidity is bright, almost searing, and it lances through the flavors with direction and purpose. The 2024 vintage feels fleshier, riper, and more composed than the vintages in previous tastings. It's very good. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.”
Its price is surprising. The average nationally is $26 a bottle. We would normally offer at $25 the price of the 2021 . We will introduce the 2024 for $19.95 , $ 16.95 by the case. It is a steal at the price. Don’t miss it.
Was $25, Now $19.95, Case $16.95
