I Fabbri Winery is exceptional in combining over 400 years of family heritage, organic farming, and a dedication to traditional, low-intervention winemaking. Its stone-terraced location in Lamole, just south of Florence, is distinctive. What is called the roof of Chianti, the hills rise to just over 2060 feet; the high altitude’s warm days and cool nights make for grapes with great freshness, aromatic intensity, and vibrant acidity. Owner and winemaker Susanna Grassi revived the family estate in 2000, converting the vineyards to biodynamic farming practices and becoming certified organic. Paired with Chianti’s ancient, limestone-rich clay soil, it makes for graceful, elegant, mineral-driven Sangiovese.
2020 I Fabbri Chianti Classico Riserva
The 2020 vintage is a richly layered Chianti, carefully crafted from Sangiovese Grasso from old vines. A complex and full-bodied red wine, saturated with warm baked black fruit, balsamic herbs, and spices. A truly excellent wine pairing for slow-cooked roasts, stews, braises, and ragu sauces. Aroma: Ripe Morasca cherries, Black raspberry, cassis, mint leaf, nutmeg, porcini mushroom, sweet pipe tobacco, and forest floor. Mouth: Bursting acidity, finely structured tannins, darker, bolder fruit, fennel, tarragon, orange peel, cedar, chanterelles, with a long, powerful finish.
