2019 Pupille Morellino di Scansano Riserva
Chianti Meets Bordeaux
October 28, 2024

Tuscany’s sunny coast, the southern Maremma, with its cooling Mediterranean breezes and a mix of marine sediment & volcanic soil, is ideal for Sangiovese and for Bordeaux grapes, too. Not until the 1980s, when young, innovative Elisabetta Geppetti paved the way by planting cabernet on her family’s estate, did SuperTuscans begin to appear around around the town of Scansano. With the help of oenologists from Antinori and Bordeaux First Growth Ch. Latour, she has established Le Pupille among the preeminent wineries of the region.

Aroma: Full of Marasca cherries, red fruits, citrus peel, dried herbs & flowers, and balsamic notes. Mouth: Medium-bodied with an excellent concentration of ripe fruit flavors of sour cherries, strawberries & red plums with minerals, mushrooms, herbs with a hint of oak and tangerine on an enjoyable lingering finish.
