Montalcino

The 2019 vintage was outstanding in Montalcino. It was a picture-perfect summer that culminated in a long, even ripening period. Its wines are compared to the other landmark vintages of 2016 and 2015 and 2010. It might exceed those; 2019 wines have more precision and terroir character. Many have inviting aromas, rich primary fruit, and well-mastered tannins that will give pleasure now. The best will age very well.

Altesino wines are perfect examples of the vintage

"One of the most consistent Brunello producers going. Its white label is almost always an outstanding bottle, and drinks very well young. However, Altesino's single-vineyard Brunello, Montosoli, is the legend-maker for the estate. …with near-perfect exposure to the sun, ensuring optimum fruit ripeness. Made only in top vintages, it is a racy, powerfully structured red that needs years of bottle age to fulfill its potential." – Wine Spectator

2019 Brunello di Montalcino

Hand-harvested from the Altesino, Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Macina, and Pianezzine vineyards, this wine exemplifies the finesse and elegance inherent to Montalcino's best vineyard sites.

Aroma: Generous and intoxicating notes of rose petals, cedar spice box, balsamic tones, and warm red berry fruit. Mouth: Cherry kirsch, wild berries, hint of orange zest, crushed stones, anise, velvety texture, medium to full-bodied, fine tannins and crunchy dark chocolate, black licorice finish. Excellent $75, Case $64

2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigne Montosoli

Montosoli, Altesino's premier site, is Montalcino's first officially recognized single vineyard. Ancient limestone "galestro" soils yield a Brunello of exceptional style and elegance. One of the most sought-after wines from Montalcino, Montosoli is consistently rated as one of the best wines in Italy.

Aroma: Exceptional personality, full of black cherry, blackberry, raspberry, violet, licorice, and vanilla, gently accented by basil and tobacco leaf. Mouth: A delicious combination of raspberry compote, cherry marinated in spirits, licorice, and mocha framed in taut, close-grained tannins. A hint of tobacco lingers on the close. Outstanding $144, Case $122
