And Cantina Grifalco has a cool name. The Piccin family moved from Montepulciano Tuscany to start a winery in Basilicata. The fabled symbol of Montepulciano is a griffin The fabled symbol of Monte Vulture is a falcon. Hence the name Grifalco. As to the wines, both the 2018 Grifalco Aglianico del Vulture Daginestra and the 2018 Grifalco Aglianico del Vuture Damaschito are named after the soil type of the vineyards. These vines are in the perfect location on the sides of the volcano and the health of the grapes here is ideal.
2018 Grifalco Aglianico del Vulture Daginestra: Ruby red. Cherries and deep plum with notes of mint and roses. White pepper and cinnamon notes. Well structured acidity and good balanced backbone of tannins. Full bodied long finish. Excellent 37/bottle
2018 Grifalco Aglianico del Vulture Damaschito: Ruby red. Smokey mineral notes underlying cherries and plum. Notes of dried flowers and Asian spice. Touch of graphite in the long finish. Excellent 37/bottle
