2015 Valle Reale Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vigneto di Popoli
Some For Us, Some For the Wolves
November 2, 2020

Valle Reale is in Gran Sasso National Park in Abruzzo. This is a wild pristine environment with mountains, deep gorges, abundant flora and fauna and the cleanest water in Italy. Even the wolves like the 2015 Valle Reale Montepulsiano d’Abruzzo Vigneto di Popoli. Ask and I’ll tell you the story.
The estate was founded by Leonardo Pizzolo on the site his family had bought many years earlier. This is the best place to grow Montepulciano because of the rocky soil, diurnal temperature variations and the long growing season. It is also the first location where Montepulciano was planted hundreds of years ago by Benedictine monks.
2015 is a great vintage for the mountains of Abruzzo. The good news is that Leo has just sent us the last of this wonderful single vineyard wine and the price is still remarkable. It is not easy to really paint the picture of how amazing this location is. You could also say that this is the house red of Federal Wine.
