2015 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Zenith Vineyard

Sale on A Single Vineyard Reserve Wine
May 20, 2019

Mark Vlossak has been making the highly regarded St. Innocent Pinot Noirs for over 30 years. He named his flagship vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills, Zenith and has run it in partnership with a family of winegrowers for almost two decades. But he is giving it up. The bulk of its grapes have made up his Willamette valley blend. The best has gone into the single vineyard Zenith bottling. But the partnership is breaking up. 2015 is the last St. Innocent Zenith Pinot Noir.

Mark visited us recently, with a range of his artisanal generic and single vineyard wines. The 2015 Zenith stood out. Mark offered the wine at a price we found irresistible for the quality of the wine on our palates. The critics agree

“Deep red. Ripe red berries, pungent flowers, incense and smoky minerals on the intensely perfumed nose. Lively, spice-accented bitter cherry and raspberry flavors pick up a smoky nuance and become sweeter as the wine stretches out. The floral and mineral notes return on a long, energetic, gently tannic finish.”  Josh Raynolds, Vinous

This possesses the prettiest nose in the range with its perfumed array of various red and dark berry aromas with hints of spice, lavender and briar. The delicious and relatively refined middle weight flavors possess good punch and solid complexity that carries over to the once again dusty finish that flirts with dryness that is just enough to cut the length slightly short.”  Alan Meadows, Burghound

I had no problem with its length in the mouth
