Laurence Feraud of Domaine Pegau Chateauneuf

Laurence was charming as usual. Her wines were the same, again as usual.
January 29, 2019

The 2016 Château Pegau Cotes du Rhone Maclura was by popular consensus, the best value and promptly sold out. We are expecting a limited quantity of it when the importer gets it back in at the end of the month.

No such luck with the other value the 2017 Cotes du Rhone Blanc Lone. We have only bottles left. The winery has no more. People liked both vintages of the White Chateauneuf du Pape. with the slight edge going to the 2016. We have again just bottles of that left.

Praise was unrestrained for both the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee and the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Laurence; the former for the cellar (the opened bottle I took home was glorious three days later) and latter, mellowed by more time in oak for now. We have a few signed bottles of each.

2017 Domaine Pegau Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee John Livingston Learmouth "yellow robe with a pale rim; the nose is sturdy, square, based on brioche bread with a note of orange marmalade, sea salt. The palate is traditional, grounded, a little dumb; it holds good glycerol-based content, is well couched, ends with a firm squeeze. There are citrus, orange zest threads along the palate that perk it up. This is good, has character, is a superior 2017 for la table. Decant it." 77; Mixed Case, 69.3; Case, 65.45
