This Week's Tasting

Martin Woods, Willamette Valley, with Owner-winemaker Evan Martin

May 23, 2018

We were as impressed with Evan Martin the day he walked into our store unannounced with a backpack of Willamette wines, as we have been with any previously unknown winemaker. Chardonnay, Gamay, and Pinot Noir, all had a poise and precision and purity that you seldom come across. (Continue reading)

Last Week's Tasting

Spring into Summer - Two Whites, Two Ros├ęs, Two Reds

May 16, 2018

Tasters thought the 2016 Gadais Muscadet was in a very good place right now, to drink as a roundly-fruited aperitif or to pair with seafood. There were absolutely no complaints about its $13.99 price. It sold out at the tasting but we expect more in the next day or two. (Continue reading)

Past Tastings

Springtime Whites and Lighter Reds - April 25th

Maybe we should have called last week’s tasting “wines that taste good in the rain”. Still for the hearty souls that braved the weather it turned out to be a very interesting group of wines.

Aglianico and Friends - April 18th

We started last week with two whites from Campania. They were both dry, clean and well balanced. Other than that, completely different.

Spicy Mediterranean Reds - April 11th

Last week was a little crazy as all the wines had similarities but each was very much defined by its own character.

Thomas Calder - April 4th

Important: First we'd like to say we opened on the advice of several people to open three wines in advance so they would show their best. If either the 2013 Domaine de Collier Saumur Blanc, 2015 Thillardon Chenas Les Boccards or 2016 Vincent Paris Crozes Hermitage interests you, please decant at least an hour ahead.
