Good dry roses come in many different textures, styles and weights. Two of the Rosatos we have from Italy are Tuscan wines made with Sangiovese and the third is from Piedmont and made with Nebbiolo.
The 2017 Dievole Le Due Arbie Rosatois made from old vineyards that the new owner of Dievole bought a couple of years ago. The style is traditional with refreshing balance and a floral note. The 2017 La Spinetta Il Rose di Casanovais made from vineyards close to the northwest coast of Tuscany. With its classic style this wine has become one of the favorite roses on the Boston restaurant scene.
The 2016 Proprieta Sperino Rosa del Rosais a rosato that actually ages well. Last year I visited the property where owner Luca di Marchi and I tasted four older vintages. All were still very good. Maybe it takes a year in bottle for more of the spicy Nebbiolo character to emerge.

Three French roses: Two are from the south.Henri Bonnaud is a grower in tiny Palette near Aix. His Syrah-based 2017 Steff Rose is his best value, with a refreshing lemony flavor brought by the addition of Vermentino.
Thibault Boudignon is one of the more exciting of newer Loire winemakers . We were struck by the crisp balance of his 2017 Rose de Loire. All Cabernet Franc, it has the crisp flint of the grape nicely countered with rich fruit and a lively acidity. Very Satisfying.
From Languedoc, the 2017 Ch. Lancyre Pic St. Loup Rose satisfies in a different way. High altitude vineyards near Provence, make Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault into a wine that is both richly fruited and densely flavored with Provencal herbs.
