A Wine We Loved

2014 Faiveley Mercurey Blanc Clos Rochette
October 12, 2016

2014 Faiveley Mercurey Blanc Clos Rochette

Another fully realized 2014 White Burgundy. Chardonnay is rare in Mercurey. Faiveley makes a unique wine from it . The underlying fruit is raw and direct, with the strength if not the finesse of Puligny. They temper it with generous wood in both fermentation and aging; rather apparent now, but that will soften and integrate with the wine with time. This is a full flavored wine that you can drink now for its power, or but will age well for a few years. I am taking some for my cellar.

Burghound agrees (although his notes are from barrel and do not reflect the wood aging) "A wonderfully fresh nose features notes of melon, straw, apple and a hint of wood toast. I like the punch and detail of the nicely textured flavors that possess a subtle but refreshing salinity on the smoky and balanced finale. This should reward a few years of cellaring if desired."
