Donatella Cinelli Colombini

Donatella Cinelli Colombini is an amazing woman who makes excellent wines and has taught Tuscans that women are just as capable as men when it comes to running a top flight wine estate. Actually she has two. Casato Prime Donne is in Montalcino where she makes her Brunello and Fattoria del Colle is nearby in Val d’Orcia. This is where she makes the Cenerentola DOC Orcia. Both estates date back hundreds of years. Val d’Orcia is a beautiful area between the more famous Montalcino and Montepulciano. Donatella believes that Orcia should and will attain the same status.

The 2010 Fattoria del Colle Cenerentola is a unique Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Foglia Tonda. It has different characteristics yet the same quality level of Brunello. These are the kinds of wine I really enjoy finding and making available to you. Donatella very nicely offered to send us some of the 2010 vintage which was one of the best in recent memory. Donatella also says there are parallels between Cenerentola and Cindarella. Both have two privileged sisters (Montalcino and Montepulciano) and both have happy endings. In this case the happy ending occurs when you are really enjoying a great meal with this great wine.
