2015 E Pira Chiara Boschis
The Essence of Barolo
May 13, 2019
If you landed here from Mars tomorrow and asked me “Hey, what is this Barolo wine all about?”, I would immediately take you to visit Chiara Boschis at E Pira in Barolo. Here are the reasons:
The vineyards: Via Nuova is the highest elevation vineyard in the village of Barolo. Mosconi is one of the most distinctive vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba. And Cannubi is Cannubi, the first vineyard recognized to be at the level of Grand Cru.
The farming: Chiara has been a tireless advocate for organic viticulture in Barolo. The grapes and the soil are incredibly healthy and the yields are low.
The reputation: Chiara is respected and admired by every other grower I know in Barolo.
The wines: These wines are made naturally and represent a perfect balance between traditional and modern. 2015 is a great vintage in Barolo. These are amazingly expressive Nebbiolos with all of the mystery and artistry that comes with that.
Chiara is one of the people I visit on every trip to Barolo. She is expressive, good natured, joyful, philosophical and artistic. If you want to have a bottle or two of the essence of Barolo, this is it.
