Laurence Feraud

"Possessing both power and finesse, full body, sweet tannins, and a great finish, don’t miss this beauty.” Jeb Dunnock

2016 is an exceptional vintage for Chateauneuf du Pape. I like the wines better than the ballyhooed 2015s. They are wines of greater finesse and have some of the balance that has been missing in some of the previous great vintages for Chateauneuf du Pape.

Laurence Feraud has been justly praised for her wines. Bettane & Desseauve write " Domaine Pegau "one of the glories of the appelation." When I tasted a barrel sample in September, I found a wine that will take its place among the classic of the region; a wine of poise and richness.

Rhone specialists agree :

“A wine that’s going to rival or surpass the 2015, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée shows the quality of this awesome vintage with its deep, powerful, concentrated style. While Laurence says her 2015s remind her of her 2010s, I find a certain 2010-like purity in this wine as well as killer notes of black raspberries, blueberries, garrigue, and pepper. Possessing both power and finesse, full body, sweet tannins, and a great finish, don’t miss this beauty.” Jeb Dunnock

"healthy dark red robe. The nose brims up with abundant, soaked black fruits, blackberry and prune. There are enjoyable, discreet airs of rose and violet. The palate is rich, varied, presents good and true Grenache plum fruit with some late spicing. The tannins weave a mineral fix into the wine, and the aftertaste is pebbly, pretty fresh, as a result. This has character, and is genuine Châteauneuf, the palate more interesting than the nose." John Livingston-Learmouth.

Laurence will be here with a range of her wines next Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:00. If you wish, she will sign your bottles of what surely will be a classic wine whether you can come to the tasting or not.

Also we have been offered a very limited amount of Pegau's ne plus ultra, their 2016 Cuvee da Capo

"This marks the first time Pegau will bottle back-to-back vintages of da Capo. The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo was produced from the last block picked that year and fermented outside because the winery was full. It's 70% Grenache and 30% other mixed varieties. It comes across as huge in the mouth, with substantial tannin, fleshy dark fruit, perhaps a hint of warmth and intriguing licorice nuances on the endless finish."

Josh Raynolds, Vinous "Opaque bright-rimmed ruby. Potent red fruit liqueur, incense and Moroccan spice aromas on the highly perfumed nose; a smoky mineral element provides lift. Sweet, concentrated and energetic in the mouth, offering intense raspberry liqueur and cherry cola flavors that pick up a smoky nuance with air. The penetrating, floral-dominated finish shows outstanding clarity and thrust, and harmonious tannins add framework and grip."
