A Solid Off Dry Riesling
2006 Markus Molitor Riesling Qba

In 2006 the energetic and iconoclastic Markus Molitor made less than half his normal amount of estate Riesling, mostly from his home estate of Wehlener Klosterberg. David Schildknecht in the Wine Advocate said it had “an excellent balance of stuffing with clarity and brightness, refreshing citricity, invigorating salinity, with a nice sense of slate as well as intriguing spice suffusing the whole. It will make a versatile – and by no means austerely dry – Riesling to enjoy over the next several years.” Essentially what I thought below, with the addition that it has a tensile depth and richness.
With the the next vintage on the way, the importer made us an offer we couldn’t refuse. If you like just off dry Riesling, for now or the next year or two, you shouldn’t either.
