Our friends at Upstairs on the Square are calling this event Natural Selection. That must be ironic, because Anthony Bells success has come doing exactly the opposite
He is one of our favorite Napa winemakers, not only for his English accent. His breeding, however impeccably Oxfordian or Etonian is far less important than that breeding which he has performed upon Cabernet Sauvignon.
He was the viticulturist at Beaulieu Vineyards in its heyday, and brought to them the Cabernet Clone 6 which formed the core and the secret of their iconic George de Latour Reserves of the seventies and eighties.
When BV went from craft to brand, he started Bell Cellars using some of his best Clone 6 Vineyards.
Anthony will begin the evening with a short talk about Clone 6s history and importance in Cabernet.
Then the fun as we taste his family-made, hand-crafted wines with a menu highlighting the summer bounty of local, family-owned farms.
